I miss really dramatic, long running tv series that I can settle into bed or on the couch in pajamas and binge watch. I’m currently watching NCIS for the twentieth time, and I can always turn on Grey’s Anatomy or Gilmore Girls.
I’m not sure if it’s the expense, or streaming services, but television series just aren’t the same. Most television shows are not 20 plus episodes in a season instead of the new norm of 12-13. And it’s hard to find something with more than a few seasons, and the seasons are so spread apart I lose interest before the next one is released.
I get the concept of bigger is better… and more expensive, but I miss the old days of fewer special effects and less flashy scenery but more focus on the characters and bringing the viewer into a different world.
Is it because of the current generations? Does our generation not have the ability to keep our attention on the same characters and plot for longer than a few episodes for a few years? Even movies have lost their long term audiences. Classic movie series like the James Bond movies or StarWars, or even Fast and Furious and Harry Potter are no longer produced. Nothing is as long as it used to be and I think we are missing out.
